Perfect Pieces

A perfect piece can be one of those items that seem to have been stylish forever ~ Cashmere sweaters, the Little Black Dress, the pencil skirt.  They look as great today as they did when they were new; they transcend fashion and become style.

Or a perfect piece might be one of those iconic vintage pieces that seems to typify the era that created them.  An example might be the decorated circle skirt, or its first cousin, the novelty print skirt. And who can think of the woman of the wartime 1940s without picturing her with a jaunty hat?

Sportswear occupies a special place in American fashion history.  Pieces that we seldom even think about as being "fashion" played a role in how we dress today.  Even the lowly gymsuit was an important link in the progression from skirts to slacks.
