Clothing And Textile Collections in the United States: A CSA Guide (Costume Society of America Series) by Sally Queen and Vicki L. Berger

This book is a real treasure for those of us who love fashion history and museums.  Described by the authors as a "field guide" to museums that have clothing and textile collections, the book helps the reader locate over 2600 museums and institutions in the US that have textile collections.

The  Guide is easy to use, with the information organized alphabetically according to state.  Each entry has at least the name of the institution and its physical address.  Many entries have detailed information that includes the hours of operation, contact persons, web address and collection type.  And to make planning even easier, there is a map for each state, locating the towns and cities where collections are located, and showing major highways.

Some states are better represented than others.  For example, there are 67 entries for North Carolina, but only 33 for Tennessee.  But the good news is that the project is on-going.  The authors welcome additional information on entries, and they also want new entries.  These can be entered at their website, americasclosets.com.
